Secret Principles of Immortality, Edition 25

In the previous article, I came to the conclusion that there were sixteen principals which describe the minimal path to immortality, in a temporal context in which one engages the earlier functions of principle, athletics, medicine, and adaptation.

The sixth principles are the following, translating slowly: (1) Desire for mystery, (2) Art, (3) Proverb, (4) Thirst for reality, (5) Clarity , (8) Living mystery, (9) Paradoxical answers, 10 Secret power, 11 Test of merit, 12 Law of self, 13 Proof of existence, 14 Casting a spell, Diabolical value, (16) Test of mastery

Now we will consider the entities that result, so that we know what is represented by every stage of the initiative into immortality. I will consider these in reverse, so that the highest object is first on the mind:

[A] The Master
[B] The Poet
[C] The Caster
[D] The Official
[E] The Artist
[F] The Patron
[G] The Politician
[H] The Philosopher
[I] The Performer
[J] The Strategist
[K] The Child
[L] The Genius
[M] The Explorer
[N] The Cultivator
[O] The Tester
[P] The Epicure

Let's say these are arranged in order of their appearance hierarchically. This involves printing them in four rows of four, and taking 1.1, 1.2, 2.1, 1.3, 2.2, 3.1, 1.4, 2.3, 3.2, 4.1, 2.4, 3.3, 4.2, 3.4, 4.3, 4.4

ABCD
EFGH
IJKL
MNOP

So ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOP =

A, B, E, C, F, I, D, G, J, M, H, K, N, L, O, P

Taking those elements, I get the following hierarchy:

Master, Poet,
Artist, Caster,
Patron, Performer,
Official, Politician,
Strategist, Explorer,
Philosopher, Child,
Cultivator, Genius,
Tester, Epicure
Presumably that list could provide a temporal guide to which things are achievable in seeking immortality, either beginning with one end or the other, depending on whether the person is a generalist or a specialist in multiple ways.

Let us look at the collapsed functions of the hierarchy. These are reached by looking at the first and last element as a duality, and reaching middle terms only by reaching through the list from both ends and gathering elements on the way.

At each stage I will provide a description which is my sense of the meaning of the combination.

Master <-> Epicure

Description: The feeling of immortality, versus the nature of actually being immortal. Discretion is a good word for this.

Master-Poet-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who accepts things as they are. Who knows what is simple and complex.

Master-Poet-Artist-Genius-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who uses exceptions to realize the fullest potential.

Master-Poet-Artist-Caster-Cultivator-Genius-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who realizes the spiritual aspect of life, and the overall importance of intentality.

Master-Poet-Artist-Caster-Patron-Child-Cultivator-Genius-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who approaches life with wisdom, and a view to the newness of life.

Master-Poet-Artist-Caster-Patron-Performer-Philosopher-Child-Cultivator-Genius-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who accepts apparent reality, literal meaning, and outside importance.

Master-Poet-Artist-Caster-Patron-Performer-Official-Explorer-Philosopher-Child-Cultivator-Genius-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who sees that some things have importance.

Master-Poet-Artist-Caster-Patron-Performer-Official-Politician-Strategist-Explorer-Philosopher-Child-Cultivator-Genius-Tester-Epicure

Description: Someone who sees the secret nature of things.

Now I will re-write the descriptions backwards to show the progress towards general achievement:

Someone who sees the secret nature of things. Someone who sees that some things have importance. Someone who accepts apparent reality, literal meaning, and outside importance. Someone who approaches life with wisdom, and a view to the newness of life. Someone who realizes the spiritual aspect of life, and the overall importance of intentality. Someone who uses exceptions to realize the fullest potential. Someone who accepts things as they are, and who knows what is simple and complex. Discretion.

Each description can also be used as a stage of philosophical wisdom.

(a) Curiosity
(b) Ambition
(c) Truth
(d) Practicality
(e) Soulfulness
(f) Greatness
(g) Wisdom
(h) The Ultimate

In an earlier article (Edition 19) it was stated that, if a philosopher represents wisdom, then wisdom is the second stage: 1. Stated opinion, 2. Philosopher, 3. Seer, 4. Trickster

Thus, it may be anticipated that the most development occurs in the last two stages, where we have by comparison, 'seer of wisdom', and 'ultimate trickery', or 'ultimate seer' and 'tricky wisdom.' Or, simply wisdom and the ultimate.

Thus this article ends.

Mid-Life Crisis? The Aging Process and Five Steps to Looking Ten Years Younger

As we reach our middle years we have an expectation that our bodies will begin letting us down and we 'feel' old.

Hitting 40 is a new frontier in your life. You can start looking at yourself and your needs. What is it you really like? What do you want out of your life? It's time to look forward to a life for you. Nothing is impossible, even looking ten years younger.

You can create a future where you stay 'feeling', as well as, looking young. There really is nothing to be afraid of; you need to embrace this new freedom and begin living for yourself.

This starts with feeling good about you; ensuring you feel as young as you are, not as old as you think! The aging process is not a given. It is about how you feel and much of that has to do with how you look. If you're feeling sluggish and gray, it may all be a matter of the mind rather than a permanent state of play.

Consider what you eat; the more processed food you consume the less healthy you become. Take an honest look at your food intake and really do something about it permanently. Make that promise to yourself.

You also need to ensure you keep moving. Many people spend far too much time sitting. You need movement in your life no matter what your age. Rather than slowing down and doing less, try walking a bit more. Pop to the shops on foot, even if it is for a take-away! Have a stroll in the local park a bit more often, no matter what the weather ..

More than anything, though, you really do need to have an upbeat attitude about things that can happen in life, good or bad. If it's good, really feel it. If it's bad, think about how it could be worse. Try to learn from the experience and turn it around so it is not 'as bad' as it could be.

Being gloomy and depressed can only make you ill and dull; try taking meditation classes or any classes (sometimes doing something you've always wanted to do but never had the opportunity). Help yourself to live a fuller, more productive life – one that can be filled with laughter and joy.

Being healthy in mind and body can only help you to stay feeling and looking younger.

A Promising Amino

Amino acids are incredible health nutrients that most people know very little about. However they are involved in every chemical reaction in the body. They are essential for overall common health and reversing the aging process. Scientists now broadly define aging as the inability of the body to restore or rebuild itself. Guess what amino acids do ?? You got it. They rebuild the body.

A lot is known about vitamins, minerals and healthy eating. Just watch the media. Little is said about amino acids. Let's compare the body to an automobile. If you fuel and maintain your car with good octane fuels, oils and lubrication, it runs good. The same is true with your body. Having raw good foods and supplementing with vitamins and minerals your body will function optimally as well. Now if this same car breaks down, it needs parts to repair it. Right? The same is true with our bodies. If our body begins breaking down, called aging, we need amino acids to rebuild ourselves.

Let me introduce you to one of those very effective amino acids .– L Arginine

L-arginine was first discovered in 1866. It's advancing effects startied revealing themselves in the 1930's when researchers discovered that L-arginine was able to remove ammonia from the body and produce creatine a necessary nutrient. Ammonia is a highly toxic substance. But Arginine's real breakthrough happened in 1998 when Nobel Prize was awarded to 3 scientists for the discovery and role of Nitrous Oxide (NO). Arginine sythesizes NO. Since then Arginine has been researched and studied for its extra role in heart health.

Nitrous oxide causes a condition called vasodilation. Vasodilation widens, relaxes, and opens arteries thereby improving blood flow. This is critically important for heart patients. If we think about it, most heart conditions including angina, congestive heart failure, arthrosclerosis and high blood pressure have their foundations in low blood flow or restriction of the arteries. When arteries are widened and blood flow is improved, most of the other heart conditions resolve themselves.

However Arginine is also useful for many other things. Due to it's blood flow improving qualities conditions like claudication (pain in the extremities due to restricted arteries), erectile dysfunction and migraine headaches are relieved. Some studies are now revealing that arginine may even be helpful for Dementia and Alzheimers patients which are nothing more than heart attacks of the brain due to low blood flow. It is known to improve immune system response and actually is an effective weight loss supplement. Arginine increases natural HGH production. HGH speeds up the metabolism, reverses the aging process, and speeds up healing processes through the body. Arginine is also a strong anti-inflammatory amino that will improve any condition like arthritis.

As anyone who regularly supplements with Arginine can tell you, It effects are clearly noticeable. Some qualities to be noted are more endurance, energy, less joint pain, better and quicker recoveries from strenuous pressures or workouts, heightened sexual experiences, skin rejuvenation and clearer and more focused thinking.

It is now estimated that most people over 30 need supplementation. Deficiency results in fatigue, hair loss, repeating sickness, poor skin conditions, and poor cognitive function.

Health, Fitnesss and Longevity – Is Anti Aging a Reality?

Let us Look at 3 Aspects: Diet / Detox, Health & Behavior and Cosmetics.

A) Diet and Detox: Good for you or not? There are many kits and remedies available, but do they work and are they safe? Can they be harmful? Do they help in keeping the body healthy and youthful?

Assoc. Professor in nutrition Tim Crowe, at the Deakin University, says no! He believes they can be harmful, and unnecessary. 'If you're in general good health, you've already got a great system in place for ridding the body of waste and toxins. There is no medical evidence to suggest that detox diets do it any sooner or more efficiently. ' At least ten associate experts agreed. 'Some of these detox programs can actually be harmful, as they cut out entire food groups, meaning that you miss out on essential nutrition.'

A common response to this is 'but I feel great after detoxing.' In this case they advise you to look at your normal life style and what you normally eat. While you've been detoxing, you probably cut out a lot of your normal foods which were bad for you anyway, such as salt, sugar, alcohol and caffeine. And any resulting weight loss is quite possibly just fluid, which you will quickly replace.

B) Health & Behavior: Now for something more positive. For those who still hold out for the magic formula, there is hope.

The antioxidant resveratrol, found in red grape, red wine, peanuts and Japanese knotweed, is proving to have anti-inflammatory and anti aging properties. Studies at Harvard Medical School showed that mice given resveratrol actually doubled their endurance capacity and showed considerable immunity from the effects of obesity and aging. It is now also being tested as a treatment for memory loss and melanoma. The secret appears to be that resveratrol increases the activity of the gene SIRT1 that protects us against disease.

Junk Food & Processed Foods, should be avoided. They typically contain high levels of fat and phosphates which accelerate the signs of aging and, in quantity, can induce muscle and skin atrophy.

Do not Smoke! If your any way serious about retarding the effects of old age, you simply can not smoke. Overwhelmingly, non smokers of the same age have better skin with fewer wrinkles, better bones and fewer cataracts. Without going into all the nasties of smoking, statistics show that if you do not smoke, you reduce your risk of dying within the next 15 years by HALF.

Exercise Daily: Too much can not be said on the importance of exercise to keep the body (and mind) young. The 'Archives of Medical Study' after considering work concluded 'daily exercise has a comprehensive effect on the body cells – significantly slowing down the body's aging.

Daily Multivitamin Supplement: It is very important to get sufficient daily doses of Vitamins and Minerals to function properly. By keeping your body (and mind) in good condition you can significantly prolong your lifespan. If you have a busy life or can not always get a balanced diet, consider a good Vitamin & Mineral Supplement. The Harvard School of Public Health states 'today there's quite a bit of evidence that taking a daily multivitamin makes good sense.'

C) Anti Aging Cosmetics: this is the third important topic I had wished to include here, but I just just note it now as imporant and have to cover it in our next article.

Finally, to quote the Desiderata, 'Be careful, Strive to be happy'. Avoid stress and bad relationships if at all possible. This really does poorly effect the body; it effects your general health, immune system, intellect and ages you dramatically. In such cases, Yoga and Meditation are still recommended.

Stay Young.

How Acai Berry Fights the Aging Process

Aging is a natural process that we can not avoid. But this does not mean that all people age at the same rate. You already know that smoking, excess alcohol drinking and working in highly polluted environments, can age your skin faster. And the same happens to your internal organs. When it comes to your bad habits, you can try and quit them. But there are other factors related to your body's toxic load, that you can not control. When it comes to breathing the air of a polluted urban environment or stressing and working over-hours, you are not always in control. This is why, if you want to slow down the aging process, you need to boost your consumption of antioxidants.

Acai berries are extremely high in antioxidants. Antioxidants are naturally occurring phytochemicals that can be found in different concentrations in fruits and vegetables. They are important for our body as they protect us from oxidative stress and the effects of free radicals. Oxidative damage is what makes some people look much older than they actually are. This is why consuming acai berry products can help slow down the aging process. Let's have a more detailed look at it.

Free radicals occur in our body normally as a byproduct of the metabolic process. When we are exposed to certain environmental conditions damaging free radicals are produced. Such conditions include our exposure to pollution, pesticide and herbicide residues on our food and in the water. These damaging free radicals are unstable structures that steal electrons from healthy molecules, leading to dysfunctional proteins and even DNA damage. And this is why the presence of antioxidants in our body is important! When we have enough antioxidants, free radicals bind on the antioxidants and do not cause damage to our healthy cells.

You will be amazed at what these berries can do when it comes to slowing down the aging process. These berries are number one on the list of oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC). This is one of the most popular scientific systems used to assess the antioxidant potency of foods. Freeze dried acai berries score an amazing 1027, being on the top of the list. Fresh acai berries are number two with a score of 185. In order to understand how powerful acai berry is, when it comes to fighting free radicals, keep in mind that cranberries -widely marketed for their antioxidant properties- score 95 on the ORAC list and oranges just 18. This means that even though pomegranates, grapes and even wine have been heavily marketed for their antioxidant and anti-aging properties, these berries are much more efficient in delaying the natural aging process.

Now that you know what antioxidants can do for you, try and incorporate acai berries into your diet. This super fruit comes in a variety of products to choose from such as: supplements, tea, powders, juices, capsules, and extract all allowing you the freedom to decide which product to incorporate in your daily diet. Try to make it a habit to consume one fruit and vegetable juice every day and add in freeze-dried acai berries or acai berry powder. In just a few weeks you will notice that you will start looking younger and feel more energized as aging signs like black circles, dull hair and patchy skin will gradually disappear.

Making this super fruit a staple in your lifestyle is a great way to not only improve your chances of slowing down the aging process, but also being able to take advantage of this berry's powerful vitamins and nutrients that can improve your overall health and make your feel and look your best.

Osteoporosis How to Stop It – Solutions That Work

Osteoporosis is an age-related disease that is unaccompanied by symptoms, at least in the early stages. In the late stages, multiple bone fractures are the main symptoms.

Changes in appearance, such as reduced height and curvature of the upper spine are other possible symptoms. The disease is four times more likely to affect women than men. While being a woman is something you can not change, there are changes you can make early in life to reduce your risk.

These changes may also help to stop or reverse any bone loss that has already occurred.

Support Your Body's Ability to Produce Estrogen

Estrogen deficiency is considered one of the non-modifiable risk factors for osteoporosis. Lack of estrogen is believed to be the main reason that women past the age of menopause develop osteoporosis. Age-related decreases in testosterone production play a role in men, but to a lesser extent than low estrogen in women.

Early onset osteoporosis is seen in women who have had their ovaries removed surgery due to illness or injury. The ovaries produce the largest amount of estrogen, although small amounts are produced by other organs and tissues. Removal of the ovaries or menopause does not result in zero circulating estrogen. Men have no ovaries, but they have estrogen circulating in their bodies.

Early onset osteoporosis and a softening of the bones called osteopenia is also seen in certain female athletes, due to poor nutrient intake, insufficient caloric intake and reduced estrogen production. To support your body's ability to produce estrogen, focus on improving your nutritional intake. Be sure to get enough calories and exercise regularly, but moderately.

Herbs can also help support or stimulate estrogen production. These herbs are helpful for menopausal symptoms, for PMS and for other symptoms associated with hormonal imbalances.

· Tribulus extract
· Damiana extract
· Dong quai extract
· Sarsaparilla extract
· Chasteberry extract
· Red clover extract

Some of the best women's supplements contain all of these ingredients, along with calcium and magnesium, the two minerals primarily responsible for strong bones.

Do Strength-Building Exercises

There is a strong correlation between strong muscles and strong bones. Weight bearing exercises, such as squatting with weights or just with your bodyweight to begin with, stimulates bone-building activity.

Having strong muscles provides another benefit. As you age, you will have better balance and be less likely to fall if your muscles are strong. Muscle mass also helps protect the bones of the upper leg and hips, an area where life-threatening fractures most often occur.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

People who are overweight are actually less likely to develop osteoporosis. Being overweight is bad for your health in other ways, however. So, you goal should be to maintain a healthy weight. Being underweight is just as bad for your health as being overweight.

Find out what a normal weight for you should be. If you are underweight, talk to a nutritionist about planning meals that will provide you with enough calories to gain a little weight and improve your nutritional intake. Just eating when you are hungry may not be enough. Appetite decrees with age, which could be another reason that osteoporosis risks increase with age.

Avoid Heavy Metals

Heavy metals are all around us in the environment. Cadmium exposure, in particular, has been associated with an increased risk of softening of the bone and reduced bone mineral density. The heavy metal interferees with the absorption of dietary minerals. People who are chronically exposed to cadmium start to experience pain and have more fractures as they grow older.

Quit Smoking

Cadmium is present in the soil due to fertilizers and exposure can occur through a variety of other routes. The number one source of exposure, and the one that results in the highest levels of cadmium in the blood, is tobacco use and cigarette smoking. Cadmium would be present in the tobacco due to the use of fertilizers and could also be naturally present in the soil, as it is a naturally occurring substance. Numerous studies have shown that smoking cigarettes decreases bone health.

The nicotine in cigarettes is also an appetite suppressant. So, if you are a woman who smokes and you are underweight, you may be able to improve your bone health simply by giving up the cigarettes.

Balance Your Intake of Omega-3s and 6s

An imbalanced intake of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids is associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis according to scientists. Both omega-3s and omega-6s are essential for good health, but most people get too many omega-6s and not enough omega-3s.

There are two easy things to do to help correct the imbalance. Switch from corn oil to olive oil or canola oil. Corn oil is very high in omega-6s and contains almost no omega-3s. Number two: Take a good fish oil supplement. Fish oil is rich in omega-3s, which are good for your heart, as well as your bones.

As you can see, there are many things you can do yourself to prevent, reverse and stop the progress of osteoporosis. The disease is not an inevitable part of the aging process. Click the Osteoporosis Solutions link below for more ways to stop osteoporosis.

Purchasing Department Store Products That Don’t Do the Job? Organic Skin Care Saves the Day!

Many people commonly report that they shop at local department stores and seem to get “reeled in” to cosmetic counters by the lovely aromas, scents, colors, sparkles and all of the “glam” that bombards the senses. Enticed to try different samples of cosmetics / facial care products and perfumes that advertise things like, “look younger in just 14 days,” “take better care of your skin with this scientifically-proven skin care system,” and “this scent will make you absolutely irresistible! ” However, they also report spending too much cash on products that end up not being as effective for skin care as they had hoped.

Some skin care product consumers were recently randomly surveyed, and they report spending an average of $ 75 to $ 100 per visit on department store brands. They report purchasing these products due to being advertised as “all natural” and having only “pure” ingredients, and thought they were buying products that would definitely improve their skin. However, after using the products for some time, they report their skin did not appear to show any signs of “improved wrinkles” or “firmness.” Yet, these surveyed people thought they had closely followed the directions for use of the products they had purchased.

It is interesting to note that, out of sheer frustration, many of these surveyed people report that they began reading product labels and taking more notice of the ingredients listed on the skin care products before purchasing them at department stores, and even from the “All- Natural “shelves of their grocery stores. Oddly, they reported the labels often listed many ingredients that were not at all natural, but chemical.

Some report that they actually researched the products, and they learned that their favorite brands of skin care and cosmetic products for “anti-aging” and “improving skin texture,” actually contained many chemicals that had been shown to actually accelerate the aging of skin. In addition, they found from their small bit of research that using botanical, pure essential oils, ie, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil or Organic Olive Oil on their skin would yield much more effective anti-aging and skin firming results.

According to recent scientific studies, organic botanical oils like these have been found to contain very high natural levels of anti-oxidants, some of nature's strongest anti-aging components. Pure essential oils have been found to be very effective in decreasing the common signs of age and improving overall skin health. So, it is likely that choosing to spend just $ 25 to $ 30, for instance, on an 8 oz. bottle of an organic, essential oil or a product containing it as the key ingredient, will yield much better results due to the purity and concentration of the botanical oils, and it will last up to five to six months. This is due to only a very small amount (1-2 Tbs.) Of product is needed to effectively promote healthy, glowing skin, compared to department store brands that often require using at least 1/4 cup of product per use.

This reduced monthly cost, combined with achieving a truly healthy, glowing complexion with less defined wrinkles, redness, dryness and improved skin firmness and texture certainly looks like a win-win for the consumer. Often, people who make the switch to organic skin care products containing organic essential oils report that they notice these improvements within the first 14 days of using the product daily. However, people with extra sensitive skin should always check with their physician before beginning any new skin care regimen.

Rich in vitamin A, retinol is the most trusted ingredient when it comes to improving the texture of the skin, lightening the superficial brown spots, unclogging pores, and smoothing wrinkles. However, retinol is very strong in nature, and often causes irritation when brought in contact with direct sunlight. For best results, apply a retinol-based cream on dry skin during night and match it up by applying a moisturizer in the morning.

Hyaluronic Acid

What's the first thing that comes in mind when you hear the term ” acid “? Obviously it's something dangerous, abrasive and harsh. To your relief, hyaluronic acid is the exact opposite. It's reputation comes from its humectant quality. Due to this quality, hyaluronic acid can pull in moisture from the atmospheric air. A lotion which has hyaluronic acid is highly effective in adding to the rehydrating quality of the moisturizer.

Niacinamide

Dark spots are a very common occurrence resulting from sun damage and acne scars. And did I mention that it's a often seen facial feature during old age? A derivative of vitamin B3, Niacinamide is a wonder ingredient which prevails pigmentation or melanin from rising to the surface. Moreover, it helps in reducing acne and inflammation, enhance the collagen production, and improve the moisture barrier of the skin.

Avobenzone

One of the most popular and highly trusted skin care product these days is the broad-spectrum sunscreen which has a SPF 30 or a higher level. The reason behind this is avobenzone which is the main agent that blocks the harmful UVA rays of the sun. In order to prevent the skin from UVB rays, this ingredient is often paired with oxybenzone or benzophenone-3. For the best results, apply an avobenzone-based product before putting on any makeup or lotion.

L-ascorbic Acid

Have you ever heard of the term ” wild card “? Of course you have! It is something we generally associate with instability and extremely volatile nature. L-ascorbic acid (or vitamin C precisely) is the wild card ingredient when it comes to hiding your age. As it can become ineffective, extra measures are always taken to make sure that the product does not lose its efficiency. Always go for a skin care product which has L-ascorbic acid in the ingredient list as it is a powerful antioxidant which helps to lower skin inflammation, build collagen, and promote elasticity to plump up skin.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids

Tired of dead skin on your face? Then it's time to go with alpha hydroxy acids. Unlike the hyaluronic acid in nature, these acids are well-known as powerful exfoliators. Once you apply this ingredient on your skin, it starts dissolving the material that joins the surface skin cells. As a result, the dead cells get peeled away and you get your new, radiant and youthful looking skin. However, the skin care product must not have more than 8% alpha hydroxy acids; as a greater dose will make your skin extremely sensitive to the sun rays.

Therefore, it is important that you check the cosmetic labels of the skin care product you are buying. Make sure that the product has any one of these ingredients. Once you buy the right products, making yourself look younger will only become as easy as a ” walk in the park “.

Top Four Skin Aging Myths Debunked

We are a beauty obsessed society, and that's a fact. With all the perfect looking models and celebrities on TV, it is not unusual to desire their beauty. Which is why as crazy as it may sound, there are a lot of women out there who would try literally anything just to look pretty and youthful. From intravenous drips to bee venom facials to vampire face lifts and eating placenta, women would go great lengths in the name of beauty. Women will try all sorts of skin tips even if they are not sure if it's effective or not. So to spare you from these skin booboos, which I'm pretty sure you've heard at some point here are some of the top skin aging myths.

1. The higher the SPF, the better for your skin.

Unknown to many, the number indicated in the sun protection factor, or SPF or a sunscreen only gives a guide for how much UVB protection it can provide. Higher SPFs are not always necessary because there are other factors to consider such as your skin type anyhow long you're exposing yourself to sunlight. The bottom-line is, when looking for a good sunscreen always check if it blocks both UVA and UVB rays because that's far more important than the SPF rating.

2. Anti wrinkle creams can bring back the youthfulness of your skin.

As you age, your skin and facial structure will change and there is really nothing that you can do to stop that. Also, there is no such thing as a youth elixir in a jar. Rubbing wrinkle creams, even the most expensive ones can not make you look twenty years younger. Such creams only plump up and hydrate the skin temporarily. Let me repeat, temporarily. For anti aging procedures with longer effects, it's still best to see a dermatologist.

3. Sun damage can be reversed by using sunscreen.

Wearing sunscreen can only protect your skin from further skin damage and stop any early changes in the skin that may be occurring. It can not reverse sun damage. Sun damage may not be revisable but there are ways that you can do to prevent and improve sun damaged skin. Religiously using SPF, drinking lots of water and moisturizing everyday are some of them.

4. You only need to wear sunscreen when going out.

Just because you can not feel the sun on your skin does not mean that the sun's UV is not there. The sun's UV rays can still penetrate windows so it's very important to stay protected even if you are just staying indoors.

The Importance of Respecting Your Sleep Rhythms

“I love sleep. My life has the tendency to fall apart when I'm awake, you know?” – Ernest Hemingway

I have always loved sleep. As a child, and right through until the last couple of years, sleep has come easily. On the rare occasion that I did not find a hibernating level of slumber, I would easily recover it with a nap. I generally averaged 9 hours of sleep a night. I used to hear people talk about their problems with sleep and I felt sorry for them. Still, I felt even more sorry for the poor souls who did not see the use of sleep and found fatigue and sleep to be more of an inconvenience. It has been a couple of years now since the youngest of the kids started sleeping right through night. Neverheless, I still find myself sleeping with one eye open. While it is not entirely due to children, I am finding that I now struggle to reach a deep state of sleep and it seems to take a ridiculous amount of time to get there. I have started preparing for sleep as if I was entering a battle and the bed is the battlefield. To win this war, I try to set the stage for success. I cut my caffeine in take off early, I do some exercise everyday, and I even take a melatonin. I take sleep so seriously that I dedicated a chapter of it in the Ekahi Method.

Last night was another example of, despite setting the stage for sleep, I just could not get into the rhythm of sleep. I think I slept three or four hours last night. Fortunately I still have the ability to get an average amount of sleep with a late afternoon nap. I know that this can set a cycle of not being able to sleep later in the evening but I had to do something! It is amazing how lack a few hours of sleep can affect not only your mood but your coordination, cognitive processes, reaction times, balance, and more. On the drive home today, I felt inebrated. I cut off a driver by accident and felt like I was operating in another dimension. My late afternoon nap sorted me right out. Let's take a look at the research surrounding sleep.

How much is needed?

  • According to the Mayo Clinic, 7-8 hours a night for adults

Benefits of Sleep:

  • muscle growth and tissue repair
  • hormone release (growth hormone and melatonin)
  • brain development
  • lower metabolism – lower metabolism = longer life

Effects of not sleeping 7-8 hours:

  • higher mortality rate
  • poorer results on complex mental tasks
  • lab animals denied sleep for a few weeks have immune system failure and die

Tips for getting a good rest:

  • get 30 minutes or more of exercise during the day or early evening
  • an hour or more before you plan to lie down, start turning off the lights. Stimulating the retina with light prevents the release of melatonin (a hormone related to serotonin to make you sleepy)
  • sleep in a dark room – any light source can prevent you from reaching a deep sleep
  • good air flow – if possible, try to have air moving in your room
  • cut the caffeine at least 3 hours before bed
  • turn the cell phone off and move it away from your head
  • try a melatonin. These supplements can be purchased over the counter at most health food stores and druggists. Ask your health practitioner about it.

Respect your rhythms:

  • it is true that we all have different sleep rhythms
  • if your natural inclining is to go to bed early and rise early, set the sleep stage for that to happen
  • If you prefer to stay up later and wake up later – I hope you have found an accommodating career and lifestyle

Now if you will excuse me, I must start preparing to gain the upper hand in the war for more sleep tonight.

Exercises to Keep the Mind Fit

We have long understood the value of exercising for giving a person greater brain power, and keeping it as they age. So this is more of an update on what medical science is finding as they test further on the subject and just as important for motivational purposes to understand why. If we really have a firm grass on why exercise tricks these brain mechanisms it should compel us to go to the gym to put them to work.

The definitive studies on exercise and mental enhancement are still being done on animals. They have not been able to directly link these effects in humans, but it is believed the results found in animals can also be applied to humans. And what testing revealed is that animals that exercised had healthier brains and did much better on cognitive tests than animals that did not. Animals had to exercise to become smarter.

So how does exercise trigger the rejuvenation of our brain tissue? Much of the conversation now revolves around brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF. This can be described as proteins released by the brain cells, and once activated the brain stem cells are converted into new neurons. The higher level of BDNF appears to have a rejuvenating effect, as higher levels are found in the bloodstream after working out. They have been described as a sort of fertilizer for the neurons of the brain, making them grow quicker with stronger connections.

Furthermore, the studies found that exercise can actually increase the number of brain cells, particularly in the brain region known as the hippocampus. This is especially important for those suffering from depression. Often people with depression have fewer cells in this area of the brain, and if exercise can grow and invigorate brain cells in the hippocampus it certainly would have been better answer than taking antidepressants.

It's probably true that we know exercise makes us feel better, or especially once we recover. By way to help in normalizing insulin levels and boosting the production of endorphins we always feel more invigorated after a workout. Endorphins, the feel good hormones in the brain act not only to enhance our outlook on life, but are now seen as having the best way we know to fight depression.

If you want to get the brain chemicals dopamine, which affects emotional response and the ability to fall pleasure, and serotonin, affecting mood, sleep and memory, you have to exercise. So what exercises are best, and how much do you need.

Anything that gets you moving will help, and that includes walking, gardening or mowing the lawn. But the more intense exercises, such as high intensity interval training or anaerobic exercise like powerlifting will result in greater results. What has been found not to work is stretching, or any other exercise that does not require movement. As far as length of time to exercise, again any length of time is better than none. But it is recommended that at least 30 minutes a day three to five times a week should improve depression issues significantly.

How To Prevent Sagging Earlobes

When you start to look in the mirror each morning and think “I look old,” what is it about yourself that makes you utter that dreaded phrase? Is your skin still in good shape? How about your neck? Can you see lines around your eyes or mouth if you stand a normal distance from the mirror? (Leaning in real close is cheating – even young people think “I look old” with every single skin cell under scrutiny!)

But there's one body part we do not often think about when it comes to aging. Sure, if you have facial wrinkles you might consider getting a facelift or having some Botox injected, or at the very least investing in some heavy duty anti wrinkle cream. But what about your ears? They can often say much more about your age than other parts of your body, and they often are neglected when it comes to anti aging treatments. Earlobes age just like the rest of your skin; they start to sag and droop over the years.

While your earlobes would sag on their own over time, there are a few things you can do to dramatically reduce the droop. One is to avoid wearing extremely heavy earrings for extended periods of time. You earlobes are not able to support very much weight, and heavy earrings pull and stretch the skin, which can cause sagging. If you do wear heavy earrings, you can prevent sagging or pulling by only wearing them for a short period of time. The rest of the time, choose lighter earrings or studs, which are the easiest for your ears to support without damaging the earlobes. You should always take out earrings before bed, no matter how big or small they are, to prevent them pulling in your sleep.

In addition, you want to treat your ears the same way you would treat any other body part – by applying sunscreen to your ears when going outdoors, and applying anti wrinkle cream daily.

If you've noticed your earlobes are already sagging, there are a few things you can do to tighten them up so they'll hold earrings better in the future. There are manual stickers and products that you can use to help hold earrings up in their normal position, but as far as repairing the earlobe itself, you may need to undergo a minor cosmetic procedure. You can have fillers injected into the earlobe to fill in a sagging lobe and make it look fuller. This is a procedure similar to Botox. If your ear piercing is severely strained and stretched due to heavy earrings, you may need to undergo a minor surgery to repair the piercing.

Cosmetic ear surgeries have gotten more common, especially among patients who have undergone a face lift, as this can affect ear placement if not done properly. It is often a minor procedure that can be done quickly and easily.
